Abstract

This study examines the current use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education, focusing on how students interact with AI tools and their perceptions of their value. The research aims to: (1) identify the most commonly used AI tools among students and determine if usage varies by gender, (2) explore the purposes for which students use AI, the benefits they see, and their level of knowledge and skill in using these tools, and (3) assess students’ perceptions of the ethical issues related to AI use. A survey was created and distributed to university students, resulting in 244 responses from AI users. Students express high confidence in their tech skills and mainly use AI tools for personalized learning. This research offers valuable insights into students’ experiences with AI tools, highlighting both their advantages and ethical concerns, and ends with a discussion of the implications for higher education institutions.
