AI Policy
Policy on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-Assisted Technologies
The Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Human Sciences (YZIB) recognizes the increasing role of artificial intelligence (AI), generative artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs), and AI-assisted technologies in scientific research and scholarly communication. The journal supports the responsible and transparent use of these technologies while maintaining the principles of research integrity, accountability, confidentiality, and human oversight.
This policy applies to authors, reviewers, and editors and covers the use of AI and AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation, research processes, peer review, and editorial decision-making.
1. AI and Authorship
Artificial intelligence tools, generative AI systems, large language models, chatbots, or other AI-assisted technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to YZIB.
Authorship requires responsibility, accountability, approval of the final work, management of conflicts of interest, and compliance with copyright and licensing requirements. These responsibilities can only be assumed by human authors.
All listed authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and content of the submitted and published work, including any content produced or assisted by AI technologies.
2. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI and AI-assisted technologies to support appropriate aspects of the research and writing process. Such use must be conducted under meaningful human oversight and control.
AI-assisted technologies may be used, for example, for:
-
language improvement and readability;
-
grammar and spelling correction;
-
translation assistance;
-
literature organization;
-
coding assistance;
-
data processing or computational support;
-
visualization support; and
-
other research-related purposes where their use is scientifically justified.
Authors must carefully review and verify all AI-assisted outputs. AI-generated information may be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, fabricated, or based on unverifiable sources. Authors are therefore responsible for checking all facts, references, analyses, interpretations, and conclusions included in the manuscript.
AI tools must not replace the authors' intellectual contribution, critical reasoning, scientific judgment, or responsibility for the research.
3. Use of AI as a Research Method
YZIB recognizes that artificial intelligence may itself constitute a research method, analytical technique, experimental tool, or object of study.
The use of machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, large language models, natural language processing, explainable AI, or related computational approaches in data analysis and research is permitted when scientifically appropriate.
When AI is used as part of the research methodology, authors must provide sufficient information to support transparency and reproducibility, where applicable, including:
-
the name and version of the AI model, tool, or service;
-
the provider or developer;
-
the purpose for which the technology was used;
-
relevant model settings, parameters, prompts, or procedures when scientifically necessary;
-
procedures used to validate or verify AI-generated results; and
-
the extent of human oversight and interpretation.
AI-generated analyses or outputs must not be presented as independently validated scientific findings without appropriate verification.
4. Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must transparently disclose the substantive use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the preparation or conduct of their research.
Where appropriate, the disclosure should be provided in the Methods, Acknowledgments, or a dedicated Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies section.
A recommended disclosure statement is:
During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [name and version of AI tool/service] for [purpose of use]. The author(s) reviewed, verified, and edited the output as necessary and take full responsibility for the content of the publication.
Routine use of basic spelling, grammar, formatting, or reference-management tools that do not generate substantive intellectual content does not normally require disclosure.
When an AI system is itself the subject of the research or is used as part of the experimental or analytical methodology, its use must be reported in sufficient methodological detail irrespective of the disclosure statement above.
5. AI-Generated or AI-Modified Images, Figures, and Research Data
Artificial intelligence must not be used to fabricate, falsify, or misleadingly manipulate research data, results, images, figures, or other scientific evidence.
AI-generated or AI-modified visual materials may be considered only when:
-
their use is scientifically justified;
-
the use of AI is clearly disclosed;
-
the material does not misrepresent research findings;
-
applicable copyright, privacy, consent, and ethical requirements are satisfied; and
-
the AI-generated content itself is relevant to the methodology or subject of the research.
Authors remain fully responsible for the integrity and provenance of all visual and data-based materials submitted to the journal.
6. References and AI-Generated Information
Authors must independently verify references, citations, DOIs, quotations, datasets, and factual claims suggested or generated by AI tools.
Fabricated, nonexistent, or inaccurate references generated by AI constitute a breach of scholarly standards. Responsibility for reference accuracy rests entirely with the authors.
7. Use of AI by Reviewers
Manuscripts submitted to YZIB are confidential documents.
Reviewers must not upload manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, figures, supplementary files, or confidential information to publicly accessible or third-party generative AI systems where confidentiality, copyright, intellectual property, or data protection cannot be assured.
Reviewers must provide their own independent scholarly assessment and remain fully responsible for the content and accuracy of their review reports.
AI tools must not replace the reviewer's critical evaluation, scientific judgment, or recommendation.
If an AI-assisted technology is used for a permitted administrative or language-support purpose during peer review, its use must not compromise manuscript confidentiality and should be disclosed to the journal where appropriate.
8. Use of AI by Editors
Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not upload unpublished manuscripts or confidential peer-review information to publicly accessible generative AI systems.
Artificial intelligence may support administrative, technical, screening, or quality-control activities; however, editorial decisions concerning acceptance, revision, or rejection must involve human editorial judgment.
No manuscript will be accepted or rejected solely on the basis of an automated AI-generated assessment.
Similarly, allegations involving research misconduct, plagiarism, image manipulation, or inappropriate AI use will not be determined solely by automated AI-detection systems. Such tools may provide supporting information, but final evaluations will involve appropriate human review.
9. Research Integrity and Undisclosed AI Use
Failure to disclose substantial AI use, fabrication of content or references through AI, inappropriate manipulation of research data, or any use of AI that compromises research integrity may be treated as a potential breach of publication ethics.
YZIB may request clarification, methodological information, prompts, outputs, source data, or other relevant documentation when necessary to evaluate the integrity of a submission.
Cases of suspected misconduct will be evaluated in accordance with the journal's publication ethics procedures and internationally recognized publication ethics principles.
10. Responsibility and Policy Updates
Authors, reviewers, and editors remain accountable for their scholarly and editorial responsibilities regardless of whether AI-assisted technologies are used.
Because artificial intelligence technologies and international standards for their use in scholarly publishing continue to evolve, YZIB reserves the right to review and update this policy when necessary.
